Poll 4 Breast Center questions
In Spring of 2001, a series of polls appeared on the risk calculator, asking
"If you had a breast problem, like a lump, pain
or discharge, where would you go?"
Several variations of choices were presented:

The results of 3 successive polls are shown above. The first poll showed that a breast care center run by a nurse practitioner was unpopular. The first and second polls also showed that a breast clinic within a cancer center was also unpopular.
In the choice between visiting a medical office or clinic, versus a dedicated breast center, the breast center becomes more popular than the typical medical office, when the long-winded explanation of the service describes both same-day services and a nurse navigator. The final popularity of the breast center would likely depend on educating the public on the benefits of the services, using marketing.
Thank-you to everyone who responded to the poll.
Sincerely,
Steven B. Halls, MD
